August and Beyond

No glowy scarab Mad

so I can't grab that logo, and I can't try to reverse engineer the Night Below logo yet, either. Evil or Very Mad

But we have our first two minis: Umber Hulk and Drow Spider Priestess.

Umber Hulk?

Can someone 'splain this to me? Why are we not getting a renamed Umber Hulk (Bedazzled Umber Hulk, Lazy-eye Umber Hulk, etc.) instead of getting the same name for the creature that we had back in Harbinger? That is "not good"... :doh2:

I'm hoping that someone just didn't get the name right. WotC are having extraordinary difficulty with something very simple. And that bothers me.

Oh, and the DSP is very cool.

They both look amazing. Awesomely sculpted drow female, what I would hope could be an awesomely sculpted drider female, amazing looking umber hulk (doesn't matter to me, I have no umber hulk), and I'm glad I'm getting 8 cases of the next set Very Happy

Hopefully I can afford it. I've noticed a lot of people have old stuff for trade and trade for brand new sets coming out. It could be a great way to snag up extras, and hanging on to an umber hulk would be great (in case what happened with the HB umber hulk happens to this one Very Happy

). And having some c/uc to give away/send off would be nice. Maybe sell some spare rares on ebay. Make some of my money back Very Happy

To the topic at hand, though....

I'm still really impressed with the new UH sculpt. This one time that I'm not going to complain about size creep, because the sculpt is that impressive.

I'm worried about the name because it will create confusion (without having to resort to it's gaze). We're not supposed to be getting more figures with Difficult which the old UH had in spades (Difficult 7, I believe), and what will happen to the old mini if the new one has different stats? Will you be able to use the HAR mini with DeD stats?

And despite what's being mentioned elsewhere on the web, I like the non-combative pose of the DSP. It's almost a testament to just how cold those female Drow really are. "A what is coming at me? Let me know when it's chewed through my bodyguards..."

Whatever the hell that means....But I'm thinking that the Umber Hulk is an Uncommon.

One uncommon...One of the previewed figures is Uncommon, but the other rarity is not hinted at.
Not the Delver...Both Drow and Umber Hulks could be said to delve and dwell beneath the surface world, so I can't really decipher much here, but the Drow were exiled. Do they still Delve if there's no place for them on the surface?
HarbUH hump same, claw higher...They reused the Harbinger Umber Hulk's mold, but repositioned an arm? Or this one's attacks aren't as good? Reusing the mold doesn't sound right to me.
EOL...End of Lesson? End of the Line? Edge of Light?

I doubt it was same mold. Maybe he was saying same sculpt, except the claw's higher on one of them. I think the EOL was a referrence to Ettercaps fOr Life. Now, what's going to be funny is if an ettercap's in this next set. You'll all have been pwned Very Happy

Call me insane, but the paint on the Umber Hulk just doesn't do anything for me. I love the sculpt, but no way I'm repainting a rare(assuming here)with my meager skills. I'll likely take several anyway, but won't be as thrilled about it.

Is it really too much to ask to get a Drow Priestess with a snake headed whip?!?

Well, we still don't know what she's got on her left side. She could have a whip coiled on her hip or casually looped against her leg.

With what I've seen of the plastic of late, I don't think I'd trust a whip to remain unbroken for very long...and *knock on wood* I've been very lucky with my whips so far.

Umber hulk : OK, but I hope for no size creep, to keep it in line with my harbinger one. If it's uncommon, great, at least I can have a small squad of them (4 will be enough). If it's a rare, well, not a problem... I'll get at least one of them, and probably 2, seeing that I always end up buying to cases since war drums now...

Drow priestess : OK too, I love drows, and variety is always cool. Concept too similar to the arachnomancer though.

Umber Hulks advance to Huge size, so even if the UHD (I'm assuming that the new UH is the Umber Hulk Delver) is significantly larger than the HAR version, I'm not going to sweat it. The DeD version just has a couple extra hit dice, right?

I mean, it had to do something to get those Delver levels, right?

Umber Hulk rocks... I have 2 of the older one but I will need about 2 more of this one. I agree with Wraitnborne the color sucks and I will be repainting mine to match the older ones.

The drow rocks but I wish the whip could be seen more... maybe its just the way the picture was taken. But bring on the drow!!!

The odd thing is, I believe that this UH is actually more of an "umber" color....

We don't know for sure (unless I've missed it) what the DSP/EOL has in her other hand. It could be a whip, it could be a normal weapon, it could be nothing but an (Un)holy Symbol.
