Defeating the tarrasque Empty
PostSubject: Defeating the tarrasque   Defeating the tarrasque EmptySun Aug 12, 2007 9:08 pm

I have a few ideas as far as defeating a tarrasque, but what are yours? I saw somewhere using a spell to shrink it to fit into a bag of holding and ripping open the bag once he's in, thought that was pretty funny. Here's it's stats to help out.

Advancement:
49+ HD (Colossal)

Level Adjustment:

The tarrasque is 70 feet long and 50 feet tall, and it weighs about 130 tons.
The tarrasque cannot speak.
Combat

The tarrasque attacks with its claws, teeth, horns, and tail.
The tarrasque’s natural weapons are treated as epic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
Augmented Critical (Ex)

The tarrasque’s bite threatens a critical hit on a natural attack roll of 18-20, dealing triple damage on a successful critical hit.
Frightful Presence (Su)

The tarrasque can inspire terror by charging or attacking. Affected creatures must succeed on a DC 36 Will save or become shaken, remaining in that condition as long as they remain with 60 feet of the tarrasque. The save DC is Charisma-based.
Improved Grab (Ex)

To use this ability, the tarrasque must hit a Huge or smaller opponent with its bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can try to swallow the foe the following round.
Rush (Ex)

Once per minute, the normally slow-moving tarrasque can move at a speed of 150 feet.
Swallow Whole (Ex)

The tarrasque can try to swallow a grabbed opponent of Huge or smaller size by making a successful grapple check. Once inside, the opponent takes 2d8+8 points of crushing damage plus 2d8+6 points of acid damage per round from the tarrasque’s digestive juices. A swallowed creature can cut its way out by dealing 50 points of damage to the tarrasque’s digestive tract (AC 25). Once the creature exits, muscular action closes the hole; another swallowed opponent must cut its own way out. The tarrasque’s gullet can hold 2 Huge, 8 Large, 32 Medium, 128 Small, or 512 Tiny or smaller creatures.
Carapace (Ex)

The tarrasque’s armorlike carapace is exceptionally tough and highly reflective, deflecting all rays, lines, cones, and even magic missile spells. There is a 30% chance of reflecting any such effect back at the caster; otherwise, it is merely negated. Check for reflection before rolling to overcome the creature’s spell resistance.
Regeneration (Ex)

No form of attack deals lethal damage to the tarrasque. The tarrasque regenerates even if it fails a saving throw against a disintegrate spell or a death effect. If the tarrasque fails its save against a spell or effect that would kill it instantly (such as those mentioned above), the spell or effect instead deals nonlethal damage equal to the creature’s full normal hit points +10 (or 868 hp). The tarrasque is immune to effects that produce incurable or bleeding wounds, such as mummy rot, a sword with the wounding special ability, or a clay golem’s cursed wound ability.
The tarrasque can be slain only by raising its nonlethal damage total to its full normal hit points +10 (or 868 hit points) and using a wish or miracle spell to keep it dead.
If the tarrasque loses a limb or body part, the lost portion regrows in 1d6 minutes (the detached piece dies and decays normally). The creature can reattach the severed member instantly by holding it to the stump.
Skills

The tarrasque has a +8 racial bonus on Listen and Spot checks.

I Always Thought The Tarrasque Was Just About Half As What It Was Worth.Honestly,It Should Be In Epic Handbooks And Even Then,Most Likely Too Powerful Just As The Other Creatures With a CR Over 20.

That's kind of the fun of it, if you ask me. Fighting a super-powerful monster that can't be killed. At least the fact that you don't even have to deal with it if you don't want to makes up for that (it sleeps for 1,000 years, IIRC). And the fact that it can't be killed standardly makes for a really fun "oh crap, let's brainstorm quick before this thing freaking kills us" happening.

The Tarrasque isn't THAT powerful, I would rather fight it as a single enemy than a Solar or a Pit Fiend.

It's just a big stupid beast.

The party destroyed it in a game I DMed, they were Lv. 16 and a pact one of them made with Asmodeus forced the lord of Hell to wish it dead (With a later retribution worthy only of Asmodeus to the player who made the pact though...)

They didn't have problems touching it's AC and had enough life to survive long enough for Asmodeus to appear, in the end, only one of the 5 characters died during the fight.

Defeating the tarrasque Empty
PostSubject: Re: Defeating the tarrasque   Defeating the tarrasque EmptyTue Aug 14, 2007 8:10 pm

Its a beast, its not bright enought to do anything if its paralysed. then shooting cone of cold from a high level wizard (or anything that isnt fire) might work.

or its simply impossible, if you are under 30. And you'll need luck.

This beast have been created to be unbeated: you can't smite, cant drain or dammage ability, crazy regen, magic resistance, etc.
Nobody can beat it unless he change the rules for the players.

Defeating the tarrasque Empty
PostSubject: Re: Defeating the tarrasque   Defeating the tarrasque EmptyTue Aug 14, 2007 8:22 pm

It's possible, the above example would work just fine (in the OP), it's just akward and forces you to non-combat recourses. You can't deal lethal damage, but you can bring him down to -10, and gate him elsewhere, or bring him to -10 and wish him gone. Cone of cold will do damage to him. But you have to beat spell resistance, I think there's that 30% chance he'll reflect most things back at the caster, etc. I honestly think a 1st level party could beat him if they did it right, you just have to think somewhere else besides "let's hit him repeatedly with swords." I don't think he was designed to be unbeatable at all, just a way to discourage hack-n-slashers.

Starting at Lv 15, parties should have enough options to negate it, if not kill it

30 AC isn't hard at all to hit for mid level (15-20) fighter classes and casters should have enough feats and tricks up their sleeves to beat it's SR.

Also, Power Word Kill doesn't allow a save, so it would kill it instantly, if it has HP low enough of course

It could also be entirely dismembered in tiny bits and those bits sent to separate planes in bags of holding that are themselves sealed in Living Vaults with permanents symbols of death written on the interior just in case the pieces regenerates. And those Living Vaults could be made of Force to further the chances the Tarrasque would not exit. (See Epic Level Handbook for Living Vaults)
