Basing Painted Minis Empty
PostSubject: Basing Painted Minis   Basing Painted Minis EmptyFri Mar 09, 2007 8:52 pm

This thread will be dedicated to one of the things that i think is very important when painting a great miniature-The Base.
Lets start with a decent painted miniature. I painted up Reaper Dark Heaven Legends figure "Nabin, Desert Ranger" (figure #2586)
In a rush to get it done i only flocked the base once with a green flock (woodland scenics)...Here is the result:

This is the absolute least amount i would ever do on a base, barely better than painted black...i am going to rebase this figure tonight and post some new pics...

Updating pics! Okay as i was making the base for Nubin i felt it needed to be fairly desert like so i added in some rock and glued in some Honey Static Grass. An easy fix to add a bit of detail to the mini. I also took note from the cool-mini-or-not photographing article and am trying to find the optimal camera settings.(sidenote-notice what happens when you mistake GW 'ardcoat for a flat laquer....grrrrrrr)

Now this is more like a base should look like. This reaper Gold Dragon was painted a few years ago. The base that came on it was extremely undersized so i made an octogonal base from 1/16" Basswood. I then Glue on the reaper base and added some rocks and weapons. The grass was from a couple of fake plants i bought at the dollar store. I thought the rocks should have a sort of charred appearance so i left alot of the black showing on the rock surfaces.

More to come later...

Wow...What a Dragon, and even the first base is best painted than most beginners. :)
