Practiced Spellcaster feat Empty
PostSubject: Practiced Spellcaster feat   Practiced Spellcaster feat EmptyMon Mar 05, 2007 3:39 pm

I am thinking of getting this as my next feat for Ian, or any potential spellcaster, as it seems very effective. What I cannot find out from the describtion is if it increases your spell DC's as well. Oh, and the feat is described in the "Complete Arcane" book. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok I have the book in front of me (working from home rules!)

In paragraph 4 in ststes, "It increases your spell level only, which would help you penetrate spell resistance and increase the duration and "OTHER" effects of your spells."

I would say yes it would raise the DC of your spells. The words "othereffects"makes me come to that conclusion.

Thanks Kilsek, the "other" effects did seem rather vague to me. This feat will allow me to get Fireball at level 6, as usual for a Warmage, but with instant maximal damage dices ( 10d6 ) plus the Warmage Edge, although I still have to check as to what spells the class ability applies.

This will give me crazy DC's and chance to pass SR as well :elf:

Also, if you look how the DC is made for the spell:

10+Caster level+spell level

you would come out with a higher DC spell now becasue your caster level increased.

I don't think it does. My understanding is that having a higher caster level does not increase the DCs of your spells. Casting a spell as though it were a higher spell level increases a spell's DC (as the Heighten Spell feat).

In addition to increasing caster level for the purpose of overcoming spell resistance, this feat increases the duration, number of damage dice rolled, or number of creatures or hit dice effected by the spell, but not DC.

This feat simply lets a Wizard 3/Fighter 4 cast wizard spells as though they were a 7th level caster. A level 7 wizard would gain no benefit from the feat.

Damn, great point(s) scruffydude7. I wish WOTC would define these type of things better.

Spell DCs are 10 + spell level + the modifier for the ability score that governs spell casting for the caster's class. (Int for wizards, charisma for sorcerers, wisdom for clerics, etc.)

If it were caster level, you'd have level 20 wizards casting spells with a DC of 39!

Yeah, most feat descriptions really do leave a lot of questions to be answered.

Wish there was a better way of keeping track of rounds and AOA when a spellcaster is casting a spell.
