The Garrison 24"X40" 3d DDM map

Here is my next 3d polystyrene map "The Garrison"...the total dimensions of the map are 24"X40"...the map is scaled to a one inch grid. (1" = 5 feet) Everything is made from polystyrene/bass wood.
The small weapons are from the various weapons assortments made by Reaper Miniatures.
This map is a work in progress..please post comments or constructive critism!!

Well I got some more outdoor work done...we wanted some stumps and trees so i made up a bunch out of pipe cleaners and dried produce stalks (any guesses?)
I drilled a series of holes throughout the map to make it a "modular forest"...(13 holes on the lower half of the map and probably 13 on the upper half) So far i only have 4 trees and 4 stumps made but i am planning on having about 10 trees and 15 stumps. I am also planning to flock the lower section of the trees and stumps with a slightly different color to blend into the board.







Finally got finished the time consuming roof and some battle training equipment. My wife suggested a watch tower so i made one













The young master preps the Githzerai monks in the ancient ways for an upcoming battle.




Got some more work finished and took some pics. Finished one of the cave covers is finished. Also made up 11 modular rocks. (two 2X2, two 1X2, seven 1X1)

Before the end of the week i will be releasing some more pics of the garrison. The other cave lid is almost finished, as is some wagons. (kilsek knows what i'm talking about...lol)

I took a pic of the new spike pits.(withought revealing any secrets...LOL)
I still have to do some trailing intestines once my Kneadatite (brown stuff) shows up from the states. (after vacation)

Wow. After building that, when do you actually have time to game?

Seeing this makes me anxious to see what you'll do with the swamp!

Unfortunately i dont get to game too much in the summer. My buddy that i game with works seasonal so winter time games are often and summer ones are few and far between...
The swamp will be in production very soon! Be sure to thrown down more swamp ideas if you think of more stuff that would be cool!!

If the rest of you only knew what is going to be adjasent to the Garrison and the Swamp

Or a wizard's tower...Probably with a lichified wizard already in residence.

Or a portal to an outer plane (and not a happy one, either).

Ooooo a portal to an different dimension is one thing that is definitely going to be added in on the maps i am making for kil somewhere. (not built in but an optional accessory)

Or a corrupted temple.

I wouldn't do a Dragon's Lair (unless it were a Black Dragon, and even then I probably wouldn't do it) because I think those should be out of the way.

Or a Stonehenge-like magical place.

Oooo-ooooh.

A rotted, overgrown ancient city! Machu Pichu or Ankor Wat-style! That would be spiffy!

An overgrown city in a jungle type enviroment would be wicked cool. Have all old ruins everywhere that are similar to the ruins in the movie TomeRaider.

I've just got to say what a sweet map. I sincerely hope that Kilsek has a blast on this map. I know I would.

What does something like this cost to purchase?

I'd say it varies on what you're trying to make, but if you buy the materials from non-hobby/games workshop gaming shops it seems to be much cheaper. I compared a piece offered by games workshop to a product carried by the local model train store, and it was substantially less to go to the train store. Seemed to be less shoddy as well.

Well for a map as detailed as this one it would take me over 140 hours..soooo this map is already sold/traded for about $400 US (200 cash, 200 trade)

That's a pretty good price. It's out of my range, but still more than fair.

Yeah i do try to make the maps for a very reasonable cost. Maps like the garrison take sooooo long to make because of the amount of small details. Maps like the Pyramid and the Graveyard have much less details (so less time). Those maps were completed in 70-80 hours, so the cost was considerably less ($200)

Those are still amazing prices considering the number of required hours and level of workmanship required.

I should quit talking before you raise your rates and Kil bans me...

Especially considering how many more maps that Kilsek wants RedSkullz to make over the next year.

The worst thing is Pinky...i cant even get a decent reliable group to play. Sometimes it really blows to lie in the middle of nowhere. I have two guys ready to play anytime, but i wont DM until there is at least a third player. Grrrrrrrrrrrr
